The taverna

A true Venetian taverna, steps from Campo San Stin

Taverna da Baffo is a Venetian restaurant in Campiello Sant'Agostin, between San Stin and the Frari: seafood cooking, homemade pasta and bread, pizzas from its own oven and a terrace with tables out in the square. Inside: wood, bare stone, lanterns and an antique piano.

Alex is the one welcoming you in, and he treats this taverna like his own home. Ask him about the catch of the day: he comes back from the market every morning.

The name

Giorgio Baffo, the Venetian behind the name

Da Baffo is not a name chosen by chance. It is a bow to Giorgio Baffo, a patrician, magistrate and poet in Venetian: a free spirit of the Republic whom Casanova called a “sublime genius”.

At the taverna we keep alive his most convivial side: the pleasure of an honest table, a well-poured glass and the time to linger a little longer. Because in Venice a place becomes memorable when it has a story to tell and something good to share.

The terrace

The campo is our most beautiful dining room

Our terrace tables sit right in Campiello Sant'Agostin: no traffic, no shop windows, just the lit palazzo, Venetians walking home and the sound of cutlery.

Evening is the moment: lanterns lit, the square emptying out, the moon above the chimneys. The kind of scene Baffo would have put into verse. The outdoor tables go first, book ahead.

A sign to look for: the “Ponte S. Agostin” nizioletto. When you see it, the lantern is only a few steps away.
